Adding Solar Panels to Manufactured Homes

As energy costs continue to rise, and people seek alternative solutions that are also friendlier to the environment, solar panels are becoming a more viable option for homeowners looking to save money and “go green.”

That trend is especially popular here in California, where we are blessed with so many days of sunshine every year.

Can manufactured homes take advantage of the green benefits and energy savings of solar? The answer is yes.

Silvercrest offers the option of building your manufactured home with an “S Roof” for solar panels. During construction the roof trusses are reinforced for weight, a wider top cord is added, and a raceway is installed from the roof to the home’s electrical panel to make wiring easier. Thus, whatever solar company you choose to install your solar panels, the process should be easy and straightforward.

You may have also read about a Portland company that has developed a prototype for adding solar panels to factory-built homes. The first three manufactured homes in California with these solar panels have been finished. However, the company is still at the beginning of a long process before this solution is offered through major manufactured home providers. Watch our blog space for more details as they become available – we look forward to updating you on the availability of this new technology.

In the meantime, we are ready to speak with all of our Silvercrest customers about the solar option that exists right now. And if you are considering a solar-ready home purchase, keep in mind that here in California there are rebate programs, tax credits and other incentives that can help offset the cost of adding solar to your home.

One thing we know about manufactured home buyers – they want quality at a reasonable price. Once they have saved money by choosing a factory-built home over traditional construction, why not let the savings continue? Solar will result in reduced – or perhaps even eliminated – monthly energy bills. That is cash you can use for anything you wish.
