Four Tips for Creating the Perfect Home Office

Advances in technology and communication have now made it possible for millions of Americans to work from home. But those who accept that responsibility are also expected to be as productive at their jobs as those who drive to work every day.

For that reason, a home office should be more than a table and a computer set up anywhere near a wall outlet. You’re going to be spending a lot of time there, so you might as well be comfortable, and have the resources you need for a good day’s work.

Here are four tips that will help you create an appealing and functional home office in your manufactured home.

1. Get a great chair – but don’t occupy it for eight hours.

Office work means sitting most of the time, so the right chair is essential. It may cost a little more for a comfortable, ergonomically correct model, but your back will appreciate the investment after a long day. And since it’s never good to be too sedentary for too long, a height-adjustable standing desk can get you on your feet for a while, without sacrificing productivity.

2. Brighten it up

One of the benefits of a home office is it doesn’t have to look like the drab, gray-black-beige spaces of most cubicles and conference rooms. This is your workplace and it should reflect your preferences and personality. Choose your favorite colors and let them fly.

3. Keep the clutter to a minimum

Papers, folders, envelopes, pens, pencils, paper clips – offices run on supplies. They also run on technology that requires cords and wires and plugs. Most people get more done when they are working in a space that is clean and organized. So wrap those cords in covers and grommets so they won’t pile up and get tangled, and put the other items you use every day in a place where you won’t have to search for them.

4. Lots of light

If you can, choose a room or an area in your manufactured home with a window that lets in plenty of sunlight. Then position your workspace with this light source behind you, so you’re not dealing with any glare while working at the computer.
