Eco-Friendly Home Décor Tips

One of the many benefits of manufactured homes is how they incorporate eco-friendly construction methods.

As we reported last month, a National Association of Home Builders article found that manufactured homes eliminate as much as 75% of the 8,000 pounds of waste generated in the construction of a 2,000 square-foot site-built home.

So if you purchase a manufactured home, you can feel good about that choice and how it impacts the planet. But why stop there? Once you’ve moved in, here are some additional tips for going green that will make your home more sustainable and more attractive as well!

The Floors

The nice thing about eco-friendly flooring is that you won’t find your color or texture choices limited. Linoleum, wool carpet and reclaimed hardwood all qualify as green solutions, as do more exotic options like cork and bamboo.

The Walls

Check the cans before you select a house paint – many of the top brands contain toxic materials. There are alternative options – paints without harmful chemical pigments – that look just as great and will last just as long.

The Doors

Windows and doors are the access points for the weather outside to get into your home, where it can impact how much energy you use in your heating and cooling systems. But in addition to tight seals, you can go one step further by opting for door panels and window frames from renewable sources like salvaged lumber and used aluminum.

The Furniture

Furniture made from reclaimed materials has become a popular option, particularly among millennials. By selecting pieces made with reclaimed timber, scrap steel or fiberglass, you’ll not only be doing your part for the environment, you’ll be keeping up with the latest trend as well!

In addition to making eco-friendly selections for your home’s interior, it also helps if you develop habits that also promote energy efficiency, from looking into solar panels to turning off lights when you leave a room, to installing low-flow bathroom fixtures. Every little bit helps.
