Summer Decorating on a Budget

Many people enjoy changing the look and feel of their homes with the seasons. But this summer, with gas and grocery prices so high, some may skip the summer and hope they can revive this tradition in the fall (or winter, or maybe next spring).

We say, why wait? Summer is worth celebrating, and here are five ideas for doing so in your manufactured home that will still leave you some money left to buy Halloween candy in October.

1. Pillows and Blankets

This is one of the easiest and most economical ways to add a new splash of color to any room. Choose what makes you happy – bold patterns, contrasting colors, retro styles – whatever fits your personal taste.

2. Flowers and Plants

We all enjoy being outside in summer, and adding flowers and plants to any room is a way to bring the outdoors inside. Grow your own from seeds or buy them from your nearest plant nursery. They don’t cost a lot but add so much to the beauty of your home.

3. Rattan and Wicker

There’s a tropical feel to rattan or wicker furniture that seems to go best with summers. Yes, if you look for pieces from a top-line furniture store the cost could run into the thousands. But there are other options. Patio stores offer great designs at lower costs, and some of those pieces look just as great in your kitchen as they would in your backyard. Also, don’t rule out yard sales, consignment stores – even places like Goodwill.

4. Paintings and Prints

A sun-dappled landscape or a colorful still life adds beauty to any room. And you can find attractive pieces everywhere at a low price – starving artist shows, poster and frame shops, or buy direct from the artist online.

5. Rugs and Floor Coverings

As we all learned from the film The Big Lebowski, the right rug can really tie a room together. Vintage and textured rugs seem particularly popular this year and can be found anywhere from Target to your local antique shop.
